Many in India living in sprawling cities with malls, international brands, Zoom TV, Big Boss, NDTV, Dominos Pizza, may not be aware of Naxalism and rural India. Terrorism in India is thought to be only in its North East and Jammu and Kashmir. But the bloody time line of Naxal attack for last 2 years in India tells a different story. Here is the time line for last 2 years:-

Oct 8, 2009 : 17 policemen killed in an ambush by Maoists at Laheri police station in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

Sep 30: Naxalites set ablaze Gram Panchayat offices at Korchi and Belgaon in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra.

Sep 26: Naxals kill BJP MP from Balaghat Baliram Kashyap’s sons at Pairaguda village in Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh).

Sep 4: Naxals kill four villagers in a forest in Aaded village in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district.

Jul 31: Two persons, including a special police officer (SPO), killed by Naxals in Bijapur district.

July 27: Six people killed when Naxals trigger a landmine blast at Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh.

July 23: A 40-year-old tribal killed by Naxalites at Ettapalli taluka in Gadchiroli district.

July 18: Naxalites kill a villager in Bastar and in a separate incident torch a vehicle engaged in road construction work in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

While it has engineering marvel like Bandra Worli Sea Link, it has “Liberated Zones” by leftist Naxalites in central India in Chattishgarh where people die routinely in Malaria as well as for a meal a day.

While India has well developed space program, it has corruption infested public distribution system and even a prime minister had to remark, only 10 paise out of every 100 paise spent on poor reach them. It has a well developed democracy and boast as largest democracy in the world, still many criminals get elected even from jails.

Naxalites and Lalgarh : Liberated Zones in India

Lalgarh is a village in Jhargram subdivision of West Midnapore district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It has been in news recently as it was ‘liberated’ from Indian state by Naxalites last week.

Naxalites claim few areas inside India as “liberated” zone. Dantewara in Chattishgarh of Indian state is a place which Naxalites claim to be “liberated zone”. West Midanpore in West Bengal is one such area which Naxalites claim to be their second “liberated zone”. Lalgarh was brought to national media and got wide publicity and front page coverage due to killing CPM leaders in broad daylight in Bankshole village. Also policemen fled from their Police Station from Lalgarh to escape the fiery onslaught of Naxal cadres.

Naxal Attack leaves 17 dead first phase poll in India

Naxal attack at various places in India left 17 people dead on 16th April 2009. The dead includes 5 Polling Officials, 10 BSF ( Border Security Force), a paramilitary force. Naxal ( or Naxalites) many places in four Indian states, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Orissa. naxal

Stepping up their attacks, Maoists struck in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa, killing 17 people, including five election officials and ten security personnel, and looted electronic voting machines in a bid to disrupt the first phase of polling for Lok Sabha.
