In recently concluded election in Iran, on 12th June 2009, the incumbent, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won in big margin against his opponent Mir Hussein Moussavi. But since the result was declared, there has been lot of protest going accusing the ruling party of rigging the election.

People of Iran has been widely using internet as medium of protest and Twitter has been used to syncronize as well and exchange messages among protesters. This is a significant development in Iran, a country which western media portrays as a regressive government and western governments accuse of developing weapons of mass destruction (WMD) aimed at western world.

USA is trying to exploit the situation and as usual trying to intervene the political situation there. Here is the report :

TEHRAN — Tens of thousands of protesters massed in central Iran again Wednesday to demonstrate against the disputed presidential election, as the government expanded its crackdown on journalists to try to block their coverage of opposition activities.
The protesters, reached by telephone, described marching silently down a major thoroughfare, some holding photographs of the main opposition candidate in Friday’s vote, Mir Hussein Moussavi. Others lifted their bare hands high in the air, signifying their support for Mr. Moussavi with green ribbons tied around their wrists or holding their fingers in a victory sign. Source.

In other part of the world, North Korea has threatened USA of taking military action against it if provoked. “North Korea warned on Wednesday of a “thousand-fold” military retaliation against the US and its allies if provoked, the latest threat in its drumbeat of rhetoric in defense of its rogue nuclear program.” While China and Russia expresses deep concern over the developments in North Korea and urged North Korea to come to negotiating table.

One might be surprised that North Korea is threatening military action against USA while till now USA used to threaten other nations with military actions. But those who are following North Korea and politics in Korean peninsula, China, Japan and Russia will not be surprised with these development. China is solidly behind North Korea as USA is behind Isreal.

SEOUL: North Korea warned on Wednesday of a “thousand-fold” military retaliation against the US and its allies if provoked, the latest threat in its drumbeat of rhetoric in defense of its rogue nuclear program.

The warning, carried by the North’s state media, came hours after US President Barack Obama declared North Korea a “grave threat” to the world and pledged that new UN sanctions on the communist regime will be aggressively enforced.

Finally, the voting process in India got over yesterday after the fifth and final phase of voting. There was not any big issue for this election. Most probably this election campaigning saw record laws in terms of political opportunism. 10 incidents which were highlight according to me in this election:

1. Hate speech and imposition of NSA ( National Security Act) on Varun Gandhi, BJP Candidate, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.

2. Failure of Congress and its leading partners RJD and LJP to form alliance in Bihar.

3. Failure of Congress and SP ( Samajbadi Party) to form alliance in UP.

4. Break up of BJP and BJD alliance in Orissa.

5. Mr. L P Yadav accusing Congress responsible of Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.

6. Ban on exit polls by Election Commission.

7. Dominating cyber space by Mr. L K Advani, Prime Minister Candidate of NDA.

8. Political opportunistic behavior both by Left Parties and Congress where they fight election against each other at states and try to forge at alliance at center.

9. Shoe throw incidence resulting Congress removing two LS candidate.

10. SP putting up condition for supporting at center to the party who removes elected BSP government in UP.

We will know the result of the election on 16th May 2009, which is only 3 days from today. As per many exit polls by various news paper groups, TV channels, UPA and allies are ahead of NDA group. Also so called third front having a large number of MPs, we might see lot of horse trading.

Recently, Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav has accused Congress Party of being a party to Babri Masjid demolition along with BJP and other Hindu Extremist parties!
Here is the news:

“Bol rahe Babri Masjid girane wale… Aur Congress party bhi hai girane wala, bachaya nahin” (about Babri Masjid demolition, Congress party is also responsible for it, it did not save it), Yadav said during an election rally in Manigachi in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, about 150 km from Patna, in an obvious reference to the Congress government then ruling at the Centre. Babri Masjid was demolished on 6th December 1992. Many in India termed this to be black day for Indian democracy as well as a blot on secularism in India. No death reported during the Babri Masjid demolition. There was a serial blast in Mumbai in March 1993 and a rioting which resulted in death of more than 200 people. Also there were reports that many temples in Bangladesh and Pakistan were demolished in response to the Babri Masjid Demolition.

BJP, RSS, Sivsena and every Hindu organisation in Hindu majority country India were demonised in every news paper, news channels. According to Mr. L K Advani, every year Congress party does not allow functioning of lower house ( Loksabha) on 6th December if in session.

So, Babri Masjid demolition has been reason for many political, terrorist activities. But the recent outburst by Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav about Congress being party to Babri Masjid demolition has been quite an eye opener! I have been thinking about few questions about this statement by Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav:

1. If Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav believes that Congress was also a party to Babri Masjid demolition, why was he and his RJD party a partner with UPA government ?
2. Why did he accuse Congress now and if he had an alliance with him, would he have accused Congress the same ?
3. Why is he still a Cabinet Minister in UPA Government led by Congress if he really believes Congress was party to Babri Masjid Demolition ?

Most probably, he thinks Muslim in India are not intelligent enough to connect these information and will feel great to be informed about Congress being party to Babri Masjid demolion. And Indian Muslim Voters would stop voting for Congress and vote for RJD en mass for enlightening them about Congress double standards.

Babri Masjid demolition was an unfortunate incident which India has paid enough for and moved on. The very fact that even BJP does not claim “credit” for being able to destroy a Masjid as per many Hindu extremist parties demand, proves the strength of Hindu Secularism in India.

It is sad that Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav had raised the Babri Masjid question, though the issue is valid, but the timing seems to be quite inappropriate as it seems a Muslim appeasement for votes.

I belong to a village called Ukhamati. This is 2009 and in our village we do not have:
1. Electricity
2. Water Supply
3. Proper Road.

Every year I spend at least two months in my village. Rest of the time I travel or live in other cities like New Delhi, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Kolkota, Ahmedabad or Indore. After reading about various election manifesto by political parties in the run up to the 2009 Loksabha election, I have been thinking about my village.

Some parties talking about broadband connectivity to every village, some parties about providing TV to every household. I am wondering what about my village ?

I remember, I saw the concrete electric post in my village way back in 1984. The posts were erected and now they are gone. As per my recent information, our village Ukhamati has Electricity Connection since 1984 on records. Some say, the electricity could not be brought as there is a railway track blocking it!
NHPC is recently starting 2000MW Hydel Power project just 10 KM away, and they have electricity, water supply, proper road everything. Still, our village does not have any of those. strange!
The road through lower Ukhamati village might be the most expensive road in the world! the 400 meter road has almost 12 culverts, that is one culvert in every 40 meters. Also, as per my information, more than Rs. 80 lacs has been spent on that 400 meters of road, and still it is not a ‘road’. In rainy season, it is even difficult to walk because of mud and water. People say, Assam PWD, MPLAD Fund, MLA Fund, MAC(Mising Autonomous Council) fund, NEC(North Eastern Council) Fund, Block Development Work, Gram Panchayat Fund, all funds have been used to construct the road since 1971 and the road has not been complete yet.

It has a MV School since 1959, many people have passed out from that school, including me. Many became doctors, engineers, government officers, but the road, electricity water supply never came ! As for water supply, it was started in 1985! The constructed houses, water pumps etc. are still there, they just don’t work and the houses are abandoned!

How will broadband work in our village ? How will TV work ?

A Sikh Journalist, Mr. Jarnail Singh has thrown a shoe at P Chidambaram, Home Minister, Government of India, at press conference held at 24, Akbar Road, New Delhi.

New Delhi: A journalist threw a shoe at Home Minister P Chidambaram at a press conference on Tuesday, protesting against the minister’s reply on his question on CBI’s clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 Sikh riots case.
The shoe did not hit the minister and the journalist, a senior reporter with Dainik Jagran, was taken into custody. Source

The shoe throwing may be a symbolic incident ( after the shoe throwing at US president G W Bush in Baghdad, last year), but the reason seems to be genuine and legitimate. Most probably Congress has understood that.

More that 2500 Sikhs were killed during anti-Sikh riot after death of Indira Gandhi, after she was killed by her own Sikh Body guards. 25 years, India’s premier investigation agency CBI, could not find any one who killed those 2500 people. Most probably, either all officers in CBI are incompetent or 2500 people died in some accident, not in the riot. Or, simply, CBI and Central Government thinks common men are stupid enough to believe the lies that the accused given clean chit, as per report.

Justice delayed is justice denied as they say. Many people do not get tired of talking ‘pogrom’ in Gujarat in 2003, and those very people keep silent on 1984 Sikh riot. Some people are more equal than others.

Indian general election is going to be held in April – May 2009 for 15th Lok Sabha.

India has the largest number of voters. News about election has been headlines in many news papers, TV News Channels all over India. Many political alignment taking place at many parts of the country. Even I have put up POLL, asking visitors to this site ( if any) to vote, who would form the next government. According to me, NDA should form the government. Though many poll surveys predict UPA win and forming government, but I am sticking to my thinking. Here are my reasons:

1. Voters today are more informed than last election. And this is increasing in every election. So, informed and aware voters would choose NDA.

2. UPA has done quite well in terms of development of the country, but it could have done much better. It also ignored good projects ( really beneficial to common people) initiated by NDA.

3. NDA is now better placed to run an election campaign than UPA. UPA has many contradictions and look like an opportunists for power.

4. Minority appeasement by many UPA leaders may backfire.

Ok, these are my observations and thinking, if I am proved correct, I would gift myself a JWBL.
