December 20th, 2009 — India Affairs
Nitin Gadkari of Maharashtra has become the new BJP ( Bharatiya Janata Party) on Saturday, 19th December 2009, succeeding Rajnath Singh.
A day before, L K Advani resigned as leader of opposition in Loksabha ( Lower House) paving way for Sushma Swaraj to become leader of opposition. Most probably, this completes “Rule of Women” in India now. India has women as President, Speaker, Chairperson of ruling UPA ( United Progressive Alliance) and now leader of opposition.
Resigning by L K Advani may signal the end of Prime Ministerial ambition of Mr. L K Advani. Though L K Advani became chairman of party’s parliamentary party, but that post seems to be just a ceremonial post. One may judge that, era of L K Advani in BJP has ended.

On 6th December, 1992, Babri Masjid in India was demolished by karsevaks in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Indian state. Hindus claim that, a mosque was built on Ram Temple after demolishing it. This history of Babri Masjid thus goes back to many years which can be read at Wikipedia.

Babri Masjid
Intellectuals opine that, it has increased Hindu-Muslim divide in the country and gave birth to communal politics in India. Also, it resulted in serial bomb blast in Mumbai in 1993 which is said to be orchestrated by Dawood Ibrahim in retaliation to the Babri Masjid demolition.

November 2nd, 2009 — India, current affairs
Last general election and recently concluded state assemblies in four states saw decline of BJP (Bharatiya Janta Party, the right wing Indian political party, who was the only non-congress government in independent India to complete a full term.

BJP Leader LK Adwani Worried man
First they lost general election second time to Congress. Though their vote share remained almost same and their number of MP came down marginally, but they have seen few infighting between their top leaders. Jaswant Singh has been ousted from BJP and many uncomfortable questions on BJP top leadership has been raised.
In the recent assembly election, BJP-Shivsena combine was expected to do well in Mahrasthra, one of the most industrially developed state in India. The present ruling coalition between Congress and NCP ( Nationalist Congress Party, a breakaway group of Congress led by union agriculture minister Sarad Power) had been very poor in governance, was in power for last 10 years. 26/11 incident where Pakistani nationals attacked Mumbai city and killed more than 180 people including foreigners and top police officers of Mumbai, happened during their rule. Still, surprising everyone, NCP-Congress combine came to power. Many analysts opine that BJP-Shivsena vote share was eaten away by MNS ( Maharasthra Navnirman Sena), a break away Shivsena party led by Raj Thackeray, which won handful of seats. They even emerged as the second largest party in prestigious Mumbai city.

Recently, India has witnessed a stranger political drama in India’s most populous state, Uttar Pradesh. The incidents might seem like a sequence of Hindi B-Grade movies. The sequence goes like this:-
10 July 2009 : News about Uttar Pradesh DGP visiting Dalit victims in his state and paying compensation as per SC/ST atrocities ac has hit

Rita Bahuguna Joshi arrested for hate speech against Mayawati, UP CM
headlines. It comes as no surprise as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh
Mayawati , being a Dalit herself. Her party fared well below expectation in last Indian general election. So many thought, this was an act of appeasement of her Dalit people. Most probably, other political parties, specially Congress, thought of countering this.
16th July 2009 : News broke that Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi remarked about his compensation that it is very inadequate, and said “If Mayawati thinks that such an amount is fair compensation for the mental and physical trauma suffered by a rape victim, then I would be ready to offer her a compensation of Rs.1 crore”. Source.
After this remark were known, Mayawati reacted quickly and ordered Rita Bahuguna Joshi’s arrest as well as charge her with SC/ST atrocities (Prevention) Act and she herself became eligible for Rs. 25000/- compensation as per the SC/ST atrocities (Prevention) Act. provisions.

May 14th, 2009 — Election India
Finally, the voting process in India got over yesterday after the fifth and final phase of voting. There was not any big issue for this election. Most probably this election campaigning saw record laws in terms of political opportunism. 10 incidents which were highlight according to me in this election:
1. Hate speech and imposition of NSA ( National Security Act) on Varun Gandhi, BJP Candidate, Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.
2. Failure of Congress and its leading partners RJD and LJP to form alliance in Bihar.
3. Failure of Congress and SP ( Samajbadi Party) to form alliance in UP.
4. Break up of BJP and BJD alliance in Orissa.

Recently, Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav has accused Congress Party of being a party to Babri Masjid demolition along with BJP and other Hindu Extremist parties!
Here is the news:
“Bol rahe Babri Masjid girane wale… Aur Congress party bhi hai girane wala, bachaya nahin” (about Babri Masjid demolition, Congress party is also responsible for it, it did not save it), Yadav said during an election rally in Manigachi in Bihar’s Darbhanga district, about 150 km from Patna, in an obvious reference to the Congress government then ruling at the Centre. Source and Complete Story Here.
Babri Masjid was demolished on 6th December 1992. Many in India termed this to be black day for Indian democracy as well as a blot on secularism in India. No death reported during the Babri Masjid demolition. There was a serial blast in Mumbai in March 1993 and a rioting which resulted in death of more than 200 people. Also there were reports that many temples in Bangladesh and Pakistan were demolished in response to the Babri Masjid Demolition.
