Amar Singh resigns from all posts: News from India

Amar Singh has recently resigned from Samajbadi Party (SP) from all posts. He was general secretary and spokesperson of Samajbadi party. Amar Singh is famous more for his friendship with Indian Hindi movie megastar Amtabh Bacchan and Indian billionaire Anil Ambani.

He has been most famous figure from Samajbadi Party for his various controversial acts and statements. The major controversy was when he donated 10 Lakh rupees to the family of Mohan Chand Sharma, a police officer who died in an encounter with terrorists at Jamia Nagar in New Delhi in September 2008. After that he demanded judicial enquiry into the firing incidence suggesting that the encounter may have been fake. The family of the dead police officer returned the money to him.

Ama Singh resigned from his posts citing his health reasons. He was recently undergone kidney transplantation operation in Singapore. Nobody in India is believing his explanation for resigning from party posts on health ground. There are many speculations about his real reasons for resigning.

Speculations are high that Amar Singh may have resigned as he has developed some differences with Samajwadi Party chief developed recently. Here are few incidences people have discussing

1. Former bollywood actress Jaya Prada fought election from Rampur on SP ticket and won. Another SP general secretary Azam Khan left party criticising Amar Singh for this and left SP.

2. Amar Singh played a crucial role in bringing Kalyan Singh to Samajwadi Party from BJP. Many muslim leaders opposed this as many of them still consider Kalyan Singh responsible for Babri Masjid demolition in 1992. Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Indian state, at that time.

3. In recent by-election, doughter in law of Mulayam Singh, Dimple Yadav lost Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh. Amar Singh criticised this loss to be because of over confidence by the families of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

4. Recently, tit is reported that Ramgopal Singh Yadav, cousin of Mulayam Singh Yadav and also a SP leader, was unhappy and angry with Amar Singh for criticising Mulayam Singh Yadav openly.
Though all of them deny having any differences, but it can be recalled that, Amar Singh was facing lot of citicism within party.

Amar Singh resignation is an interesting development as in Indian political scene. He was responsible for saving UPA government became minority after left parties withdraw support to them for nuclear deal with USA by supporting UPA with Sp’s 39 MPs. But their relationship lasted only few months and it fell apart in the next general election.
