New Delhi, Dec 2009 : Union Home Minister of India, P. Chidambaram late Wednesday announced that the process of forming a separate state of Telangana would be initiated and a resolution would be moved in the Andhra Pradesh assembly.

‘The process of forming the state of Telangana will be initiated. An appropriate resolution will be moved in the state assembly,’ Chidambaram said in a statement in the capital.

So, finally, Telangana is going to be reality. K Chandrasekhara Rao, who is also founder president of TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) was on fast unto death from 6th Dec 2009. Soon, he was joined by his supporters and many students supporting Telangana state started the agitation demanding creation of Telangana state.

As a prompt reaction, today many MLA ( Member of Legislative Assembly) of Andhra Pradesh, and many MPs ( Member of Parliament) has resigned en mass. All Telegu Desam Party MLAs, 15 of newly formed Praja Rajyam Party, 38 of ruling Congress Party has resigned so far. Among the MPs, MP of Vijaywada constituency, L. Rajagopal, was the first to send his resignation.

HYDERABAD: A day after the central government agreed to the formation of a separate Telangana state, Andhra Pradesh plunged into political chaos Thursday with at least 92 legislators and several MPs from other regions of the state resigning or threatening to quit to protest the “unilateral” decision to divide the state.
As many as 39 legislators of the ruling Congress, 38 of the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and 15 of the Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) have sent in their resignations to assembly speaker.

This is an interesting development in India as this may open Pandora’s box! There are many agitations going on at many places in India demanding separate state for many ethnic groups. Darjeeling, a beautiful hill station and Bodo tribes in Assam, Vidarva region in Maharashtra are few places where there are demands and agitation for separate states. Most probably, Indian union government should seriously think about re-organisation of states for another 50 years or so.
