6th December 1992

On 6th December, 1992, Babri Masjid in India was demolished by karsevaks in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, Indian state. Hindus claim that, a mosque was built on Ram Temple after demolishing it. This history of Babri Masjid thus goes back to many years which can be read at Wikipedia.

Babri Masjid

Babri Masjid

Intellectuals opine that, it has increased Hindu-Muslim divide in the country and gave birth to communal politics in India. Also, it resulted in serial bomb blast in Mumbai in 1993 which is said to be orchestrated by Dawood Ibrahim in retaliation to the Babri Masjid demolition.

It resulted in presidents rule in Uttar Pradesh and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government led by chief minister Kalyan Singh was dismissed. Sangh Parivars, rightist Hindu parties are blamed for the demolition.

Even after 16 years, Babri Masjid demolition is hotly debated in Indian TV channels, and questions are asked, opinion polls conducted if BJP should apologise for the demolition of Babri Masjid or not. RSS ( Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh ) is considered parent organisation for all Hindu organisation like Visha Hindu Parishad, BJO etc. RSS vehemently opposed any call for regret over the Babri Masjid demolition and strongly suppot construction of Ram Temple.

It is interesting not note that, many politicians still use this incident as minority appeasement tricks. India should forget the past and move ahead.
